Piemonte is one of the most important Italian wine regions, famous for its celebrated red wines.
It's the italian region with more DOC and DOCG wines, over 50 and more than any other Italian region.
The Langhe sub-area is home of the king of wines Barolo, together with Barbaresco among the best expressions of Nebbiolo, aside from Dolcetto and Barbera d'Alba.
Another important area is Monferrato, where Barbera del Monferrato and Nizza (from Barbera grapes), Grignolino del Monferrato (from Grignolino grapes) and Gavi (from Cortese grapes) are produced.
The city of Asti is the center of another area producing sparkling wines with the same name, Brachetto d'Acqui and Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato.
Other wines produced in the northern part of the region are Erbaluce di Caluso, Gattinara, Colline Novaresi and Valli Ossolane.
