Over 900 wines from this region are now present on Wine Glossary!

In this region the DOC Alto Adige covers the majority of wines from the province of Bolzano and the DOC Trentino those from the province of Trento.

For whites these dictate primarily the use of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, for reds the use of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

Lago di Caldaro DOC and Terodelgo Rotaliano DOC wines use instead two autochthonous red grapes as Schiava and Teroldego, respectively.

Trento DOC is the designation reserved for sparkling wines obtained from Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir or Meunier. Other DOC from this region are Casteller, Valdadige and Terradeiforti.

Other than the ones already mentioned, white grapes commonly used are Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Kerner and Sylvaner. Other red grapes are instead the local Lagrein, Merlot and Marzemino.
